Iphone does not turn off when phone case closes

I purchased a new case for my new 15 pro iPhone and the phone does not turn off when the case is closed. On my iPhone 11 Pro Max, using the same brand case, my phone used to turn off. I would like that to happen with this new case and phone. Any suggestions?
