Automatic shapes on PDF in Books app no longer work

Hello all,

ever since the latest iPadOS update, my boyfriend has noticed that the automated shapes are no longer working for him in the Books app on PDFs, everywhere else it does work (while drawing a line and waiting for it to transform into a straight one, or any other shape for that matter). Anyone else experiencing this issue? Any fixes?

I have the same problem and been battling with it for the past 2 weeks. I thought it was only me until I came across this. Has anybody find a solution?
