This iPod was purchased few years ago from US online retailer. It has been sitting in the desk drawer ever since.
After deciding to clean up the desk this iPod has has its own bullet on my agenda list, I'd like to ask Apple or any well informed individual, what to do before deciding to sell this iPod or is doing so legit. Hoping for some good advice, it would really help my charity, thank you!

You can restore iPod using iTunes.The iPod classics,minis and nanos are not the iOS devices. It cannot connect to Apple ID.Therefore, you do not need to log out.Just do the restore process.This resets the device and makes it ready for sale.
Thank you for your advice and the time spent typing, but I forgot or Apple deleted the most important part which is "This is a PROTOTYPE MODEL OF 5TH GEN IPOD CLASSIC" It is one of a kind and none such can be found around or on the internet. If you Google it or eBay it, or whatever, you will not find it. So that is why I asked the silly question, what to do, and what is the best to do in this case?

Normally, where it says DVT, storage is written. In the 5th generations, there are 2 types, 30 and 60Gb. Your device is very clean. In other devices, the back side is dull and has many scratches.
I watched it on YouTube, there are people who somehow found the prototypes of these devices.
They dont said something about selling them.
It's best to talk about this issue with an Apple support specialist on the phone or go to nearest Apple Store.
They give you the most accurate information.
