Compatibility of my Mac with Epson scanner
I've been offered an Epson 1640su scanner to use with Mac OS Mojave (OS 10.14.6) on my MacBook Pro computer (early 2015). Will the scanner and my computer be compatible?
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.14

You might also look at VueScan Scanner Software for macOS. It allows compatibility with many scanners on Mac.
VueScan is the answer! :)
Thanks for the reply. I think I'll forgo the offer of the 1640su. I can't get any information about anything to do with the individual scanner, and I can't find any information about the 1640su and my Mac/OS version being able to play together. I think I'll try finding a way to get my computer and my old Epson V500 Photo to connect (it used to work, and it usually worked with the laptop that my current one replaced), and I may use the link to VueScan software you've so helpfully provided, if I succeed with that. I suspect that the USB connections aren't very secure, and trying a different cable didn't work, either. I'll have to play with my equipment and cables and see whether I can succeed, somehow. Meanwhile, I'll make do scanning with TinyScanner or take a photo with my iphone when I need to get something like a scan to use.
Thanks again,
jenny
Thanks, that is true, and I'm quite sure that I have one – even one that is up to date. When I get a chance, I'll check it all out, but I decided not to take the offer of the scanner from trashnothing. The one offering it either refused or was unable to tell me anything about its condition or anything else, so I'm going to play around with my V500 and see whether I can't get it to connect with my MacBook Pro again, or with the computer I had before that, which had a different OS installed. I really think the reason for my inability has to do with the cable and the USB not being firmly attached when I put them together. I tried a different cable, but even that is loose. It all worked nicely with the older computer, but that would cause other problems, I think
But thank you for your message, and I'll keep what you wrote in mind when I get time to address this issue.
Thank you, but I decided not to take the 1640su scanner, because the fellow offering it on trashnothing.com couldn't or wouldn't tell me even the simplest things about it, such as its condition or anything else.
I'll keep what you've written here in mind, though, and when I have enough time, I'll see whether it will apply to my current MacBook Pro. That seems to be unable to connect to my V500 Photo scanner, but I think the problem has to do with the connection of the cable being loose _ or that's how it felt when I connected the two devices. They did connect intermittently, long ago. i tried another cable without success, but maybe I can figure out what else I might do. The scanner's listed in the appropriate place in System Preferences, so that's encouraging.
Thanks again,
jenny
Not unlike the V600, the Epson V500 scanner must have a functional Epson driver installed in order to support VueScan.
Best of luck Jenny! :)
