Why is iMessage not working on my 15.8.2 iPod after the last update and update to 17.4 on my iPhone 14+?

I updated to 15.8.2 on my Gen 7 iPod Touch and iMessage had a warning. This was after I updated to 17.4 on my iPhone 14 Plus. The warning on the iPod would not let me cancel, I could see that somehow I was signed out and, it kept sending me to the Apple webpage about Contact Key Verification, but no solution listed worked.

The solution I found -

If Apple turned on Contact Key Verification(in my case they did), then it can be found by settings>apple id> scroll to the bottom and turn off.
Then go to the iPod, and do a reset. I reset everything (pia) but when it came up the warning was gone and messaging was enabled.

Contact Key Verification is supposed to help secure iMessage to other Apple users.. in my experience, it adds nothing but problems with other devices.

Thanks for your reply. I am a retired telecom engineer and I backup every day both to iCloud as well as on my NAS using a paid program.

So the issue is this. iOS 15.8.2 does not support Contact Key Verification and if it is turned on my iPhone iMessage gets automatic turn off on my iPod. There is no setting on the iPod to turn on Contact Key Verification in Settings. I have friends that now have an iPhone 15 and when it was turned on their older iPads lost iMessage capability.
