iPad Messages no longer works - won’t login to iMessages

Messages in my iPad is no longer working. When I tap the app, a dialog box appears to log into iMessages. I had this feature turned off, since I have a family member with an Android phone and group chats with them won’t appear if it is enabled. Anyway, out of the blue, this dialog appears and when I put my password in, it gives me an error message. I do not have this issue on my iPhone - Messages works just fine. I have tried all suggestions I could find, but perhaps I missed something? I have tried the following, with no luck…

1) shut iPad down and restarted

2) checked for OS update (up to date 18.5)

3) changed my password and tried again - still gives same error message

4) reset network settings

5) all apps are up to date

6) can’t turn iMessage off, as I have no option to do so anymore

7) signed out of apple account and back in

screen shots below. Hope someone can tell me what else to try! TIA

I have solved my own issue. After reading additional posts online regarding this issue, turns out someone reported my cell phone number as spam - so Apple had blocked my number. 🤬

Which is really ridiculous and infuriating. My cell signal is so weak at our farm, I never use it for phone calls (because the signal drops and hangs up on them) and I rarely text anyone either. We actually still have a landline because of the cell signal issue. Apple tells me if my number is reported again, they won’t be able to remove the block - so I guess I have to get a new number then?!? Who would do such a thing - report a cell # as spam, just for fun?
