iPhone messages rotate to landscape and won't rotate back

I have seen replies to turn the phone off and restart it. Another suggestion is to close the app. Closing the app doesn't always work. I have not seen a response as to how to resolve the issues. I dislike turning my phone off and on every time messages lock up in the landscape position. Isn't it about time for Apple engineers to issue a software fix?

iPhone 13 mini Messages won't rotate to Landscape mode iPhone 13 mini, iOS 15.5. Screen rotation lock is off, zoom is off. I can rotate between Portrait and Landscape just fine in Mail and Safari, but Messages won't rotate - it's stuck in Portrait. How can I get Messages into Landscape mode?
