ios 16.7.6 iphone 8 plus broke rear camera for photo and video modes

After updating the recent 16.7.6, my iphone 8 plus no longer can take pictures if in photo or video mode with the camera app. Portrait mode continues to work perfectly with the rear camera. What I am seeing is the camera app is extremely fuzzy and/or jiggling is the best way to describe this as it never locks focus. I have done a poweroff, hard reset and looked and found no settings that could explain this new behavior. The rear camera is effectively broken as a result of this update. Front camera works and rear camera portrait mode continues to work. Anyone else seeing this? Any suggestions of getting my previously working phone functional again.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. Photo and video modes issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Importantly, iOS updates do not directly affect the hardware of your device.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone camra functions.

Do ios updates not modify software that manages how hardware functions such as how sensors operate? The hardware doesn't appear broken given it works in portrait mode in what I believe is a different mode for the rear camera. I had used the camera prior to the update so while it could be coincidence as you mention, I can't explain to myself why some functionality is no longer working after the upgrade. I have no updates to camera settings as it is whatever default would be. I have never had an issue with an ios update prior to this so I take your point that it rarely breaks functionality. Nonetheless, release notes do not contain every minor change from my experience. I had looked at the release notes prior to this update which appeared to be an emergency security update. From your reply, it sounds like this might be unique to my device and other iphone 8 plus users have not had this issue. I'll dig deeper. Thanks for you reply.
