Question

Increasing default maximum font size on latest iOS.

Some iOS apps support changing the font size directly, like Safari and Books, using the a..A buttons. Since around iOS 15 the maximum font size for these apps seems to to be significantly smaller, making them much harder for people with reduced vision to use.

I'm conscious that Zoom is available as a workaround, but it's quite painful scrolling left and right horizontally for every line in a book / on a web page. I had wondered if changing the system font size in the Accessibility settings would help, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I wondered if anyone else had observed this behaviour and/or found another workaround? e.g. perhaps using a different web browser or ebook reader app?

Or if anyone from Apple is reading this... would you be open to increasing the maximum font size to around double what it is at the moment? I suspect it's just a constant in a header file somewhere...

Wondering if you have tried the setting in Apple Support's article (link below):

Customize the text size and zoom setting on iPad - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Increase the text size on iPad

Go to Settings > Display & Brightness.
Tap Text Size.
Drag the slider left or right to change the text size.

and / or

If you like you can also: Make the text bold on iPad

Go to Settings > Display & Brightness.
Turn on Bold Text.

Thanks, brbo - much appreciated!

We're already at the maximum font size, but for some folk with low vision this just isn't big enough.

Have also reported via accessibility@apple.com and had an acknowledgement that dev team have been informed, so fingers crossed for a future iOS release / app update :-)
