2TB on iCloud no disk space on MacBook Air

I have 2TB on iCloud with 1.18TB available. Yet my disk space on the computer does not have enough to available to upgrade to latest Sonoma. What does this mean and how can I correct it?

iCloud and your Mac's local storage are 2 different and independent things. iCloud storage lives on an Apple server somewhere and does not alter nor enhance your Mac's local storage capacity in any way. That is fixed and cannot be changed.

You would need to delete content, files, photos videos etc.. off of the Mac or move them out to an external drive to make room on the internal one.
