How to free up disk space on my MacBook Air

I’m trying to save an important document on keynote on my MacBook Air, and it keeps saying it cannot be saved because I don’t have enough disk space. I’m confused because when I check how much iCloud shortage I have left it says 1.66TB available

how can I resolve this and remove disk space.

my laptop is working very slowly and is taking ages to delete downloads

To increase available storage space on your Mac, read Free up storage space - Apple Support and Optimize storage space on your Mac - Apple Support.

iCloud storage is not the same as storage on your Mac. If you are attempting to save that Keynote presentation in iCloud be sure you are designating iCloud Drive as its location.

When you run out of space on your HD you will need to install an external disk. Then you can transfer files, such as photos or music files to the external disk and that will allow you to delete them from your HD to clear up the needed storage space. These days these disks are cost effective, compact, easy to install with vendor provided USB cables and most do not require external power. You may have to reformat it though. There is a large selection of disks to choose from. This solution will allow you to easily have the storage you need. Problem solved. You should also know that if your HD gets too full your Mac will stop functioning and then you've got a real serious problem.
