Just switched to Safari and it's acting badly. But I really want to make it work.

Some quick background: For several years I've had an iMac, a MacBook Pro (both fairly old - MacOS on both is Monterey), an iPad (8thGen) and an Android Phone. I'd been using MS Edge on all devices as my default browser and everything g worked beautifully together. I just recently finally switched to an iPhone. So now being a 100% Apple ecosystem I naturally thought it best to switch to Safari on all devices which I have just done.

But after just two days it is acting very badly on my iMac. The whirling dervish (what I call the spinning ball) appears often. It's often running slowly with slow loading, slow typing, some keyboard keys not working. Can't install a Refresh button on the Task Bar. In google mail (my only email) while writing an email it slowed way down and then hung. Actually it froze for a few seconds (could not move pointer). I've quit Safari and also restarted the iMac, after it Froze completely to the point where I could only shut it down with the switch. Is Apple Community able to help me in this situation or will I be better off talking directly with Apple Suppoort?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 12.7
