I'm not sure about a wotnot, but it will depend on what connections are available on the car, and to an extent, which model of iPod you have.
If the car has a USB socket, then the charge cable for your iPod (which has a USB (A) plug on the end of it that normally plugs into the charger) can be used to connect from the iPod to the USB socket on the car. I would then expect the car's entertainment system source menu to have a USB option, which would play the iPod.
I expect that your car has a Bluetooth option, so if your iPod has Bluetooth, you could pair the iPod with the car and use the Bluetooth input (and no cable). However, that said, I've yet to see a car that can use two Bluetooth inputs at the same time, i.e. one for a phone and the other for a music player (MP3 etc.).
You might find, as is the case with my car, that I can use Bluetooth for my phone and my iPod, but not at the same time. To explain this in a bit more detail; yes, I can pair up both my phone and my iPod to the car by Bluetooth, but as there's only one Bluetooth input, I can't play music from the iPod via Bluetooth and have the car listen for calls. As I wish to be able to use the phone in my car (hands free), I have to have the Bluetooth connected to my phone. In that situation, I have to connect my iPod to the car via a cable and the USB input.
