Apple Watch showing deleted emails

Hi. When emails come in, I often just delete them on my iPhone without looking at them. Anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds later, the deleted message(s) start showing up on my watch. What setting do I need to change to stop this from happening? I would still like to be notified of new messages, but not after I've deleted them. Thanks!
