Don't go with "otherwise" if you need to replace your iPhone Screen. Get it replaced by Apple or an actual Apple Authorized Service Provider (BestBuy is one in the US). They are the ONLY ones who have authentic Apple screens and they are the ONLY ones who can program the screen. And if you pay some "otherwise" to replace the screen, you forfeit any opportunity in the future to get service from Apple if you ever need it on your iPhone.

"Otherwise" which to you means a non-authorized (independent) service provider could be fine if CaliforniaPete would be OK with the following:

  1. The phone will have a non-authentic Apple part installed - it is fact, not conjecture that non-authorized service providers do not and cannot buy authentic Apple parts.
  2. The phone will ALWAYS have a message saying it has a non-authentic part installed
  3. Apple won't ever touch the phone should it need service in the future
  4. If the phone has True Tone an iFixit kind of shop won't be able to program it to work EVER again
  5. Since this is an SE 2020, Touch ID may not work again either
  6. If CaliforniaPete ever hoped to one day trade the iPhone in on a new iPhone, Apple won't take the phone in trade as Apple will say it has $0 trade value
  7. If CaliforniaPete ever wanted to sell the iPhone, it's value will be diminished. I wouldn't personally give anyone 10 cents for an iPhone which had parts installed not by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider

If that is fine with CaliforniaPete, then sure saving just a few dollars by letting an "otherwise" service provider replace the screen on their phone could be fine.

For me and most others, it most definitely would NOT be fine.

You keep suggesting "otherwise" service is just fine, when it's not just fine. We'll keep coming behind you when you make these statements and we'll keep letting others know it's not just fine as well.
