Starting a plan on a new phone without a number from prior phone

I would like to buy an iPhone 13, but I’ve never had a number before and can only buy a phone if I put in a phone number. I would like to have my phone under TMobile but they also need a phone number and said they’d transfer that supposed number to my new phone.

if I used a friend’s phone to order a TMobile IPhone from the apple website, would they take that phone number from that person when starting the plan?

You do not need to have a phone number to buy an iPhone (or any other cell phone). The dealer you buy it from can issue a number to you when they activate the phone. Just go to a T-Mobile store and they can set you up, or, if you want an iPhone that is not locked to a carrier go to an Apple store and they can set it up with T-Mobile and assign a number to the phone.
