HomePod mini playing music independently of any device

This problem occurs with every device in the house. When we connect to the HomePod and start a playlist, it will play the playlist (maybe 8 songs). But after the playlist, it continues playing songs that we don’t have on the device. And when we try to reconnect, it “ignores” our devices entirely. In order to get it to “pay attention” to any device, we have to unplug it. Then, we have to wait for (usually) 3 minutes for it to connect to Bluetooth. If it’s helpful, the devices we are using: two iPhone 14s, one iPhone 11, three different ipad Pro’s (2020), and a MacBook Air 2024. All of them have up to date software.

ALSO, we had the same problem with another HomePod (2nd or 3rd gen), and now it’s just an oversized paperweight. When we got the newer mini, we’d hoped the problem would resolve.

It sounds like you're experiencing a persistent issue with your HomePod mini and its connectivity. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to address the problem:

  1. Check for Software Updates: Ensure that your HomePod mini is running the latest version of software. You can do this by opening the Home app on your iOS device, tapping on the Home icon in the top left corner, selecting "Software Update," and checking for updates for your HomePod.
  2. Restart Your HomePod mini: Try restarting your HomePod mini by unplugging it from power, waiting for a few seconds, and then plugging it back in. This can sometimes resolve temporary connectivity issues.
  3. Reset HomePod mini: If restarting doesn't solve the problem, you may need to reset your HomePod mini to its factory settings. To do this, open the Home app on your iOS device, press and hold your HomePod mini, tap on "Settings," scroll down, and select "Remove Accessory." Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the HomePod mini from your HomeKit setup. Then, set it up again as a new device.
  4. Check Wi-Fi Network: Ensure that your HomePod mini is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. If possible, try connecting it to a different Wi-Fi network to see if the issue persists.
  5. Check for Interference: Make sure there are no physical obstructions or electronic devices interfering with the Bluetooth or Wi-Fi signals between your devices and the HomePod mini.
  6. Contact Apple Support: If you've tried all the above steps and are still experiencing issues, it's possible that there may be a hardware problem with your HomePod mini. In this case, you may need to contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Store for further assistance.

Given that you've experienced similar issues with a previous HomePod, it's possible that the problem may be related to your home network setup or environmental factors. However, following the steps above should help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue with your HomePod mini.
