WiFi is grey with an exclamation mark

my macbook pro has this wifi with an exclamation mark through it. ive restarted and shut down my computer several times now but i still cant access the wifi. if i try to switch it on it wont let me. plz help!! This has happened before but it worked right after i shut it down.
