Ever since I updated to 17.4.1 my phone is more useless than a dial up computer from the 90’s.
Almost every app freezes, and I can’t access my emails anymore.
Has anyone figured out a solution to this mess?

I'm using 11 Pro and just updated to 17.4.1 2 days ago. Everything was good.
A few hours ago, the phone started playing up. No app could be launched, not even the System app. Pressing the side button won't switch the screen off, and I had to wait for screen timeout. When the phone is off, I could press the side button to turn it on.
I tried the restart by pressing the side button and either of the volume button (Restart your iPhone - Apple Support (NZ)) but even that screen (shown here) was frozen.
Thought I'll wait for the battery to drain. Until I found out that there's another restart method of pressing the up, then down then side buttons individually (Force restart iPhone - Apple Support (NZ)) which worked!

how I fix it all of my problems in few minutes…
“Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset”
Than select Restore iPhone Settings…
this will not delete all of your files but just the settings.
Delete also all the VPN settings

Had the same issue for quite some time now. I tried to reset the network settings: Settings>General>Transfer or reset iPhone>Reset>Reset network settings. Now every app works without freezing and the lagging issues I had have also disappeared. Hope this helps someone:)
this will solve all the problems:
Go to Settings 
> General > Transfer or Reset iPhone.
Support will never know how to solve your problem if you have too many problems. So make a backup of your iPhone before proceeding with a reset. Resetting will solve all problems.
I have iphone 12 pro max and at least for me the ios 17.5 has fixed the issue
Have you tried and force restart your iPhone? Force restarting can help you solve these kind of issues

Today, a user encountered an issue that wasn't resolved by resetting all settings.
However, after connecting it to a Mac and restoring the software, everything is functioning properly again.
iPhone 12 here on iOS 17.4.1 and same issue of randomly freezing apps. Once an app freezes, the only way to acces it again is to force restart the phone (short press volume+ and release, short press volume- and release, keep pressing power button until the Apple logo appears on the screen). Need to do the force restart at least twice a week.
This is the worst update I have seen and worst experience with my iPhone. I really hope the next update will fix this and will be released soon.
Same problem with SE (2020) - Tried update via Apple Devices App - failed with errors, tried restore via Apple Devices App - failed with error. Used recover mode to do a restore (multiple tries before it worked). Finally working again but phone still freezes (touch screen) randomly. Mostly the IMessage back button fails to respond but total phone locks up occur also. Cleaning memory helps for a while but eventually it freezes again. My guess is its some sort of memory issue.
Guys, activate Beta updates and install iOS 17.5. so far, no freezes anymore
After the 17.4.1 update you may experience some issue touching your display. The reason this has happened is because your device believes it is in DFU mode. You would need to hook your device up to a Mac computer and restore the device to factory to get your display to work again.
hopefully this helps and does not get deleted again.
Swipe up and then remove your finger from your phone. Then find the app you want to close and swipe it up to fully close it.

I have absolutely no such issues after iOS 17.4.1. Do the Forced Restart as already advised and make that procedure something you do after EVERY iOS update.
and maybe it will freeze again after 24h….
after 24h my phone start to freeze again.
this morning I have restored all of my phone backingup only AppleApps and whatsup (photos, contact, note etc.).
I will use the basic app waiting for some problems… than I will install all the other apps.
Than… if everything will freeze again I will look for a Samsung Galaxy 🤦🏻♂️
