iPhone randomly shuts off, full battery then when restart forced it has 10%

iPhone 14 Pro Max less than 18mths old. Recently (in the last week) battery started draining fast, despite low usage. I went from needing to charge every 2 days to having to charge every evening as soon as I got in from work. Then two days ago, it started behaving in a faulty way. I’d have 55% battery, go to open the Lock Screen, phone would freeze up and then suddenly shut down. Restart and now the phone has just 10% battery. And that freeze and shut off cycle repeats unless it’s plugged in.

I updated to the latest software update, 17.4.1 and hoped this would fix it. Have also done several forced restarts and turned off background app refresh.

the issue remains. This morning I had 90% battery and upon unlocking the phone, freeze, auto-shutdown, wouldn’t restart until I plugged it in. Then 10% battery as soon as it turns on.

I’m currently travelling for work and on the other side of the world from home, so if I ever needed my phone to be reliable - it’s now.

please help.

You may have a poor battery condition which cannot provide sufficient power for peak performance. What is the Battery Health of your iPhone? Open Settings ➡️ Battery ➡️ Battery Health and let us know which percentage you see for Maximum Capacity. Also note what is written under Peak Performance. If your battery's Maximum Capacity shows a value of 80% or less, then it has gone through its lifecycle and therefore should be replaced, according to Apple.

If the above information shows as normal, then I recommend that you contact 👉 Official Apple Support OR you can always get your iPhone examined at the Apple Store 👉 Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options or at an Authorized Service Center for further diagnosis and evaluation.

Mine has been doing the same thing, mind you, it's an older phone (8 Plus) - I have replaced the battery, and its health remains at 100%. I believe it may be the terminal, the new battery made no difference. I have an appointment today with apple to find out what is happening. It's gotten so bad that it can shut off at any given moment if it's not plugged in even after an overnight charge. I have had to carry two battery packs -- I have to say that the phone works great if it's got a direct charge.

I will post what it is they say after my appointment
