Why am I not getting all my iTunes library songs from my old computer onto my new computer?

I have 7,732 songs (all bar one I have ripped from my vinyl and CD collection) in my iTunes library however when I follow Apple's instructions in converting my library from my old computer to my new computer I only get 3,216. Why?
