macbook pro, Monterey - email often takes a LONG time to load fully.

Mail fires up, says loading mail - which completes, but new messages only show the subject, no content for a long time - like 5 minutes. Double clicking on message doesn't help - just opens window with subj etc, but no content. I get a lot of junk, which is filtered and deleted. I have years worth of email on my machine but I don't see how that can affect currently uploading mail. I'm wondering if junk filters have gotten huge and are delaying the final load of messages.

? downloading mail...(?)

I would verify with there was no change in your "email providers" IMAP server address....this can cause this exact issue if it is being forwarded to a new sever address before it downloads fully.
