Apple TV no longer an option for Air Play

I have an old Apple TV A1469 that I use to stream content from my iPhone 12 with iOS 17.3.1. I have done this every day for at least the past two years. Recently my content would stop streaming and seemed like the connection was lost, but I could reconnect. I wasn't sure if it was my phone, internet or Apple TV. Then one day I got a error "try again later" on the Apple TV when I tried to stream and even after restarting both devices, could not get it to stream. I "restored to default settings" on the Apple TV which appeared to download new software too, 7.9 (8163). When I reconnected to the internet and tried to stream, the Apple TV option was gone. I tried to stream a photo and music, but still no Apple TV. I also tried another iPhone, same issue. I can see both the Rokus in our house, just not the Apple TV. I tried restarting, unplugging, resetting, and even restored the default settings again, which also appeared to install software again. No Luck. The other issue is I am able to sign into with my AppleID to the store, but when I try to sign in to iCloud I get an error and unable to sign in. Finally, in the About section Activation is "Failed". Not sure if it was like that before though.

  1. After I reset my Apple TV, I had this problem with my Apple TV A1469 failed activation (About) and was not able to Airplay from any of my devices, iPhone, MacBook etc, Please note all my setup is done with wifi after reset only Apple Airplay was not working.

I solved it, using the following steps.

  1. Connect a LAN RJ45 cable from your router to Apple TV
  2. Connect your HDMI from your Apple TV to your TV
  3. Connect the Power of your Apple TV
  4. once it works, remove all the LAN Card and connect normal with your wifi.

Now you should be able to Airplay, test from your iPhone or MacBook.

What incase if your TV is too far from your router, dont worry about buying long wires, just take your Apple TV and Power card near your router and connect the LAN and restart the Apple TV allow it to be there for 10-15 minutes, it would have activated as it had LAN internet. only thing you couldn't check it live connecting to your TV, now take back to connect it to your TV as you had before. it will work.

Let me know how did it go!

The other issue is I am able to sign into with my AppleID to the store, but when I try to sign in to iCloud I get an error and unable to sign in.

This seems as intended. iCloud services do not seem to be supported anymore with Apple ID accounts that are also used on devices with modern software.

There have been a few changes to iCloud that affected this:

  1. My Photo Stream has been discontinued for all users.
  2. Advanced Data Protection for iCloud as an account property may invalidate some iCloud services on devices with older software.

System requirements for iCloud - Apple Support

iCloud services sign-ins aren’t needed for AirPlay, though. You may skip that for this functionality.
