How to stop Screen Recording without a Shut Off Button in MacBook Air running Monterey

I can start a recording in macOS Monterey, using cmd-shift-5 but there is NO SHUT OFF BUTTON in the menu bar. Anywhere. Period. Is there another way to shut it off? I've tried Esc, cmd-Esc.

Please don't tell me to upgrade. In my 30+ years of experience using and supporting Macs, that's never ended well. I'll upgrade when I'M ready.
