I was watching a video when suddenly my laptop started making static noises and so I closed out the video and restarted my laptop. This noise has since not stopped and persists while the laptop is on. I tried to play a video to see if playing sound would help but the static just continues behind other sounds.

well are you using the grounded 3-prong extension(?)
Apple used to ship one with every new mac; they are universal if you have one laying around.
If you mains and/or the ground to your mains are suspect or changed—You can try a different location and compare your results.
