Physical gift cards used abroad

I live in the UK and a cousin of mine in the States was struggling financially. They asked for my help and so I bought a £100 apple gift card from a store. I sent a photo of the code along with the receipt at their request. I’m just wondering how they got the money from that??

I agree with Jeff Donald. Granny scam (grandmother is called saying grandchild needs money for something, etc.). The "cousin" probably wasn't really one, and the scammer had an account set to the UK. A UK gift can't be redeemed in another country. All they need is the code and an account set to that country.

That was probably a scam. This is from last December.

>>Of all the gift cards out there, currently the iTunes gift card is the one that scammers are asking for more often, and there is a reason for this. Many of the scammers’ targets are unaware of how the iTunes gift cards work, so the criminals can take advantage of that. They use these cards in phone scams, which include tricking people into thinking there is a family member in an emergency situation or asking them to pay a bill with the card.

There are a variety of scams revolving around the Apple gift card.<<
