No password change warning in Mail?

Why does Mail not display an error when the password changed in other email accounts? Now, it does nothing.

My silly internet provider made all users change passwords at end of 2023. Eventually, I was in a critical situation where I needed to access email on iOS (95% of time I do it on macOS). Not able to.

Finally figured it out. But a message from God saying password has changed or something is wrong with the email connection to that company, would have helped months ago.

You may be talking about Comcast/Xfinity in which case they required users to change their password several months ago and also sent out emails to their customers requesting that they change the password. At least that is what occurred in my case.

In addition, they had more issues with their Mail Servers not responding after the breach as everyone was having to change their passwords. In the sidebar of Mail on the Mac, it would show that there was an error connecting to the Mail Server and by tapping on it a message comes up stating that their may be a problem with the User Name or Password. You can also view this information on the iPhone when an error occurs.

Whenever you are experiencing a problem with Mail on the Mac, go to Mail > Window > Connection Doctor, and this will give you the issues it is experiencing with all of your mail accounts with suggestions to resolve them.

@Mac Jim ID

Thanks for the useful information. But about iOS Mail app -

You said: “You can also view this information on the iPhone when an error occurs.”

I never saw anything like this when I was poking around and around and around to find the cause, as one does. Where would this be, for future reference, on iOS?

I only see the Mailboxes screen. The Inbox screen for an incoming mail service and the All inboxes screen. There is also the inverted step pyramid in circle filter button at bottom. But I saw no other info icon, or whatever it manifests as.

This error info is exactly what I was asking about for iOS Mail app.

Thanks again.

@ Mac Jim ID Oh wow, I never got that pop up! I do not remember that Account Error at bottom either at all. It is very distinctive and clear so, I would have fixed it if I had seen it after I did the change for macOS and then a month or more later, began to see, no new mail in that account.

Well, it is all fixed now and, not sure why I did not get these messages. Hence, my question here…

Apple does alert for other accounts and email providers not working. Which is what a user would expect. Just common sense.

:-)
