No password change warning in Mail?

Why does Mail not display an error when the password changed in other email accounts? Now, it does nothing.

My silly internet provider made all users change passwords at end of 2023. Eventually, I was in a critical situation where I needed to access email on iOS (95% of time I do it on macOS). Not able to.

Finally figured it out. But a message from God saying password has changed or something is wrong with the email connection to that company, would have helped months ago.

You may be talking about Comcast/Xfinity in which case they required users to change their password several months ago and also sent out emails to their customers requesting that they change the password. At least that is what occurred in my case.

In addition, they had more issues with their Mail Servers not responding after the breach as everyone was having to change their passwords. In the sidebar of Mail on the Mac, it would show that there was an error connecting to the Mail Server and by tapping on it a message comes up stating that their may be a problem with the User Name or Password. You can also view this information on the iPhone when an error occurs.

Whenever you are experiencing a problem with Mail on the Mac, go to Mail > Window > Connection Doctor, and this will give you the issues it is experiencing with all of your mail accounts with suggestions to resolve them.

Thanks for the useful information. But about iOS Mail app -
You said: “You can also view this information on the iPhone when an error occurs.”
I never saw anything like this when I was poking around and around and around to find the cause, as one does. Where would this be, for future reference, on iOS?
I only see the Mailboxes screen. The Inbox screen for an incoming mail service and the All inboxes screen. There is also the inverted step pyramid in circle filter button at bottom. But I saw no other info icon, or whatever it manifests as.
This error info is exactly what I was asking about for iOS Mail app.
Thanks again.

I have seen it in 2 places. If you do not get the pop up message claiming there was an error, then on the bottom of the page an "Account Error" should be present if you are unable to receive emails. I would be interested to know what you saw on the bottom since you did reference the filter button. I have seen an error here many times since I have Comcast/Xfinity for email and they have had a bunch of problems with their mail servers since they had a data breach and everyone was required to change their passwords.

I agree that nice UI is nice UI. And Apple has excellent User Interface on all their devices. You seem to be expecting Apple to somehow magically be aware of and inform you that YOU changed a password on an account, having nothing to do with Apple, which I get you'd like to see, but is out of the realm of reasonableness for you to expect Apple to have any awareness of or alert you to.

Feel free to write back if you want. This is my last comment on this topic, however.

@ lobsterghost1 I did not change it. A giant cable company did. But God does a lot of helpful things to tell me when something out of its dominion is not working. No internet, web site not there, etc.
This is not magic. Just good, I daresay nice, UX.
As you said, something they are good at!

When your internet provider made all users update their password, why didn't you update it on all of your devices at that time?

I did. But this happened around the holidays and various family illness through February. I missed iOS, forgot about it. Hence, a little nice reminder of, something is not working, check this email service reminder would be nice. Isn't being nice better than being mean?

What did I say that was mean, it is common sense regardless of the situation. It's your responsibility quit blaming Apple.

Actually, this is not about iPhone but this is the closest one can get to Apple Mail stuff here. I am asking because it is a symbiotic relationship between Apple Mail and other email services it can link to. So when something is not working, a little nice reminder to check (as specific as possible the cause) is, nice. Nice UI is better than mean or critical, don't you think? :-)

Yes, I sent feedback too. But, I also asked because, maybe it does but, I never saw it. In which case, I would send that feedback.

Nice, nice, let's all be nice here!

You're right, it has nothing to do with iPhone OR Apple. I get you're frustrated about this, but it's you who has to manage your passwords with accounts you use. It is not Apple's responsibility, nor can they notify you of password changes you made with accounts, which have nothing to do with them. They simply provide the hardware the accounts may reside on. But they don't have anything to do with those accounts.

We are being nice. You want to blame Apple for something, which is totally out of their control. That's the point we keep trying to share with you.

Take care

@lobsterghost1

I never blamed. Just wondered why a nice little alert for iOS was not happening. Apparently, it just does not. Except, maybe, in macOS, but, I had that one changed first so did not see it.

As far as anything to do with God, again, there is a symbiotic relationship that Mail is part of, like many God apps on the internet. It is all in the context of: Mail looks out to get mail. If it suddenly gets a reject, a nice little alert would be, well, nice.

Nice UI is nice UI.

@IdrisSeabright As I said here, I did. I always do. But, in asking here, I hoped it was something it did do and, I just missed it on iOS. But, that does not seem to be the case.

Mac Jim ID here did say it appears in macOS though. But, also, as I have said here, that was changed so, did not appear because, it was changed. (But I do remember this from past macOS Mail flubs caused by Google changes/bugs in past.)

Anyhow, have a nice day.
