How do I stop my Apple Watch Ultra from turning red?

My Apple watch ultra watchface (wayfinder) turns red by itself over and over again, no matter how many times I change it back. It even does that during daylight hours. Changing it back requires many turns of the knob to change it back, meaning 5 or more tries. And the next time I look, it has turned red again. This is a very frustrating feature. How can I turn this off? I don't want it to do this unless I change it myself, which will be rarely.

It was a terrible idea to make this automatic. It makes the watchface harder to read, and is distracting in a way that is a safety hazard. Always give the user control over things like this!

You could also try to disable this feature and switch "Auto" off in the Modular Ultra Watch Face setup.

...

The Modular Ultra watch face also includes Night Mode—a feature that turns all elements on the watch face red to help preserve your night vision. Touch and hold the watch face, tap Edit, swipe to Night Mode, then choose Auto.

If a sleeve covering the watch is fooling the watch into thinking it needs to go to night mode, then that's really idiotic design, especially given that the watch has the information on local sunrise and sunset. Having it on during daylight hours needs to be toggled by the user to avoid that problem - really, how often would you need it on during the day? I looks like whoever designed this feature didn't think it through, and no one reviewing the design did either "...designed by clowns, inspected by monkeys!"
