Face Recognition Fails after 17.3.1

After updating to version 17.3.1 (approx), Facial Recognition stopped working, failing on the 2nd attempt. Eventually, I reset it only to run into the problem of the setup not working. Move the phone lower - down to mid chest level - move the phone higher - lower - higher until I cancelled the setup. Multiple attempts resulted in the same outcome, with and without my phone case in place. A day or two later, under different lighting conditions, I was successful. For two or three days all was good. Then it started to fail again, same scenario. Today I updated to 17.4.1 with high hopes. Even worse. At this point I can’t even reset the face recognition because after entering my 6-digit pass code, IT WANTS TO VERIFY ME WITH FACIAL RECOGNITION!! No frustration here. Before I forget, I’m using a 1TB iPhone 13.

And yes, I have powered the phone off, if only for a minute or two.

Any thoughts?? Or solutions?

Thanks in advance.

It's not always the update's fault! Many things can cause phone problems. If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix the real issue. Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Parts and service history

With iPhone 12 models and later using iOS 15.2 and later, you can go to Settings > General > About to see the parts and service history of your iPhone and you can see if the camera has been replaced. If the repair was done using genuine Apple parts and processes, you will see "Genuine Apple Part" next to Camera.

  • You will see an Unknown Part  message if the camera installation is incomplete or if the camera:
  • Was replaced with a nongenuine camera
  • Was already used or installed in another iPhone
  • Isn't functioning as expected

This message doesn't affect your ability to use your iPhone or access your camera.

Learn more about iPhone parts and service history.

If your iPhone's camera has been previously replaced, repaired, or serviced by an unauthorized service provider, it's worth noting that Apple may decline to provide service for your device. The decision to refuse service will depend on the specific components that were affected by the unauthorized service.

Unfortunately, A) the problem started immediately after an update (I believe it to be 17.3.1. The last number may be incorrect, but it was in the 17.3 set of updates.) The issue at hand presented without any physical injuries to the phone, save perhaps an 18-20 inch fall onto my Sealy mattress while in a case (may have impacted my down pillow). The phone has had no issues of any sort at any time since I have had it. And unfortunately, I cannot check the Parts and Service History as it does not exist on my General>About> screen. The line at that position on the screen merely says "Coverage Expired".

In short, with no physical damage that can be discerned, zero service calls or repairs made on the phone by either Authorized or Unauthorized service technicians, and no other software or hardware problems, combined with the timing of the problem, leads me to conclude it has something to do with the update.

Thank you for your time in providing a potential solution
