Why is CarPlay not functioning on my 2024 Can-Am Spyder?

I have a 2024 can am spyder and it comes with apple car play, but it does not work, BRP says its a apple thing, what gives?

Pretty common knowledge that the 2024 Can Am Spyders did not ship with Apple CarPlay enabled due to a licensing issue. It was widely reported that they were working with Apple to resolve the licensing issue and had advertised an April 1, 2024 date for resolution.

I don't know if it was live on 4/1, but as of today, April 4, 2024, Apple CarPlay is available on the 2024 Can Am Spyder. You simply need to connect your Spyder to WiFi and via the menu Preferences: General, select Download Update for the BRP Connect application. ~10 minute download and ~10 install. Your mileage may vary. ;)

@NJLocoman, they have been demoing ACP working for 9 months now. It was never included on any 2024 shipped to customers. A factory reset won't do anything because the feature is simply not included in the current firmware.

It did get released for about 4 hours 2 months ago, I actually had it for a day. Then they pulled the update and pushed the original firmware out to those who had it and of course that removed ACP as well.

From what I understand Apple does not charge to license ACP, so not sure how that could be the problem. Probably BRP's implementation was so craptastic that they had to pull it due to bugs and they still can't make it work right.

I have all but given up on seeing ACP this riding season, if ever. Probably why they are offering us $500 or a year extra warranty because they know it's not coming anytime soon, if ever. I haven't read the fine print, but I suspect if you take the offer it also absolves them from any future liability via the court system as well.

@Fing86, previously you mentioned that you said something about lawyers or lawsuits to them. Most all companies will then immediately cease communication with you and direct you to their legal team if you mention lawyers or lawsuits. The BRP customer service people are probably under similar orders and will no longer talk to you going forward. Believe me I want to tell them the same thing but I also know what would happen.

I am resigned to the fact that we are never getting ACP and that's why they are giving us an extra year of BEST Warranty or $500 of merchandise. If we do get it that's great but I am tired of fighting with them and being told "in another 2 weeks" for the last 4+ months. At least now they aren't even giving an ETA. Maybe by next riding season we'll see it, but I am giving up on seeing it this year.

I have good signal strength on home WiFi. My Spyder connects maybe 1 time in 50 to it. It will not connect to my iPhone hotspot, ever. Even in the compatibility mode. I see the hotspot connected icon light up on my phone right after I put in the password but the Spyder just will not connect.

The current firmware in the Spyder head unit is total garbage. Bluetooth doesn't work very well either, sometimes it connects to my phone, sometimes it doesn't. I am hoping the next update addresses the horrible connectivity issues it has.

I upgraded from the Ryker to the Spyder due in part to the screen and Apple Carplay. I tour a lot across Europe and sold all my quad lock mounting gear with the Ryker as I wouldnt need to mount anything on the Spyder due to the screen. The dealer (Who have been excellent) didnt mantion the issue until I contacted them after delivery and seeing it didnt work. BRP have responded to me with the following:

Regretfully, we have to say that for the moment there is no ETA for when this is going to be available. We suggest staying in touch with your local dealership and or take a look at our website for updates on a regular basis.

I go on my first tour in two weeks and im now finding myself looking at spending over £100 on mounts with wireless charging.

I do feel that BRP have misled people as there are plenty of Youtube videos out there of them demonstrating it and saying how good it is... was that all a lie on a mockup device?

Why also does it tell you how to use Apple Carplay on the BRP website, with full instructions and saying all compatible carplay apps will work on it?

Hello Zoomer-1,

Thank you for checking out my post and asking a question.

I do not have any answers that are the same from what I have heard.

The best thing to do is check out the forum.

I use spyderlovers.com

It is advertised that the 2024 will come with APC.

I have seen videos on the internet where a working 2024 dash was running APC and the BRP rep was showing how it worked.

That is very true, it should have been told to the dealer and the customer that there is a issue with APC and it is not available as these units are shipping out, but will keep every one concerned updated as to what the problem is and when it be ready to update over the wifi on the spyder.

Well that never happened.

We are at odds as to when it will be ready.

There best guess now with out stating a date is the middle of april, but BRP has been saying "its just one or two weeks away" but they have been saying that for the last 8 weeks.

Well my experience with BRP over the years has been good. But these last 2 years when new technology is being released they have sold the product to the consumer before they had all the pieces to make it work. They will have it by next year for sure but that doesn’t make first year purchasers happy. I bought a 2024 snowmobile with the new gauge that was supposed to have a GPS module but machine came and no module. The 2025 model has it and it’s a $100.00 accessory for us last year buyers. If they promise newer and greater thing's, wait a year till it’s actually on the dealer floor.

@fing86 Yes BRP has misled all of us. It was released briefly for about 4 hours a month ago, I know because I downloaded it. I even rode around a bit with it to see how it worked. Then they pulled it and pushed another "update" which summarily removed ACP again. I even took a pictures of it back then to prove that it was actually working on my bike.

So I assume that they will eventually release it again, but when is anybody's guess.

This is how the process looked when I had ACP for a few hours back in April.

Shortly after I installed 2.1.1, it offered an "update" to 2.1.0. As it said on the screen, this is the initial firmware the bikes shipped with. I knew that it would remove ACP by doing so. I figured they must have pulled 2.1.1 due to some fatal bug (which I never saw any) and rather than risk a bike failure due to 2.1.1 I let it roll back to 2.1.0 and of course lost ACP in the process. I stupidly assumed they would fix it in a few days and 2.1.1 or 2.1.2 would be available quickly but as we all know, that has not happened.

Below is the screen I took of the "update" to 2.1.0 for reference.

I have had the same response from. I speak with them and am told to contact the dealer. I talk to the dealer and told it is a BRP software issue. I purchased my StoS in February and had lost capability when they pulled the software. I have no issues connecting my wi-fi only issues with BRP lack of ability to stabilize the software. Carupride provide wireless CarPlay and Android Auto so maybe BRP should work with them to provide working software. Also, they should consider a refund or other compensation for those that purchased a vehicle with expectation of working systems. In my opinion, very poor transparancy on what is being done to get us a working solution.

Hello Mac_a_tac

Here is what you can do, you can go back to your dealer and tell them you are returning the spyder and want a full refund for the spyder you purchased because of a item (ACP) not working and this item (can am spyder) was sold to you by BRP through your dealer as a working feature stated by BRP.

I all ready talked to my dealer about this option, and they said it is conceivable.

Since it has been over 4+ months since the can am spyder came out for delivery, and they have stated many times when the update will be available, and it has not, at there stated date or time frame, that now constitute the feature (ACP) and the firmware update as fraud since they have not released it to the customer or the dealer.

Giving you money for brp products or the extended warranty is just there way to sweet talk you to not take legal actions.

The worst part from BRP was to not tell the customer or the dealer that ACP was not working when the item (can am spyder) was sold to you.

That is fraud. It doesn't even matter if the dealer doesn't know, he is just the middle man in the purchase.

But he is still selling you a fraudulent item, the dealer has paperwork from BRP stating that ACP is a working feature on the 2024 can am spyder.

It is OK to talk about the spyder without ACP working saying that we are working the bugs out, but that all changes when the item is sold.

The dealers really do not know anything. My dealer has no idea what's going on or what the issue is. It's doubtful a license issue as Apple does not charge to license ACP in the first place. The latest email I got from BRP in response to my monthly complaint emails states:

We are working directly with Apple to fix the communication issue between the two platforms.
At this time, we still have not be given a time for completion.

Dealers are mostly clueless and in the dark about this issue like the rest of us.
