Why is CarPlay not functioning on my 2024 Can-Am Spyder?
I have a 2024 can am spyder and it comes with apple car play, but it does not work, BRP says its a apple thing, what gives?

Pretty common knowledge that the 2024 Can Am Spyders did not ship with Apple CarPlay enabled due to a licensing issue. It was widely reported that they were working with Apple to resolve the licensing issue and had advertised an April 1, 2024 date for resolution.
I don't know if it was live on 4/1, but as of today, April 4, 2024, Apple CarPlay is available on the 2024 Can Am Spyder. You simply need to connect your Spyder to WiFi and via the menu Preferences: General, select Download Update for the BRP Connect application. ~10 minute download and ~10 install. Your mileage may vary. ;)
I got it downloaded. I had to turn the bike motor on to give the battery enough power to install it. Just using the battery wasn’t enough. Can’t wait to test it on my ride Friday.
Well, the hang tag did say something to the effect that Android Auto would be coming at some point in the future. Given what a total CF their implementation/roll-out of ACP has been I would guess you'll be waiting a very long time for AA to hit these Spyders, if ever. They have not demoed AA on these at all that I am aware of, yet the ACP has been demoed since at least last September. Coming up on a year since it was first shown and they still can't make it work well enough to release it. Such a joke.
I downloaded and installed the latest BRP update to my 24 R3 Spyder last week. Last night was the first chance I had to try out ACP. It works very well for maps and voice directions into my Sena Impulse helmet, but attempting to use the phone was impossible. SIRI would not respond and after manually trying to dial a saved number from my phone to another person, I could not hear them or they could not hear me and they generally initiated the hang up. When I looked at my bluetooth connection and noticed my helmet was not connected to my iPhone 15Pro Max. I attempted to connect the two. Attempting a call after that I noticed the other persons voice was extremely slow and garbled. When I got home I disconnected my Sena helmet from the BRP app and my phone worked perfectly to my helmet; however, ACP was not selectable and a pop-up said no helmet detected. It appears to me there is a problem with ACP making phone calls.
BRP withdrew the update because it was failing on most of the Spyder.
I’m at a dealership now. The sales person said Can Am has not finished working out the deal with Apple yet.
When and if it's ever released again you can update it yourself over WiFi. No need to take it to the dealer unless something goes horribly wrong. I installed the version in April that had it over WiFi, was pretty quick and painless once I got the bike to connect to my WiFi which is another saga in itself.
I will still wait for someone to actually claim the $500 credit or the 1 year warranty since you have to make a choice. At that point they may still make you sign a waiver of liability.
I visited the dealer. The salesman I worked with was with another customer when I got there, so I waited around. They had three Spyders/Rykers on display, but they looked odd to me. There was one with saddlebags and a top case, but it was a flat black, and didn't look like my 2024. So when the salesman finally came over to me, I asked about them. He told me they were all 2023 models. He said they're selling out of the 2024 models as quickly as they can uncrate them and prep them for sale.
So I asked about the letter, and he said he'd heard about it, but asked me give him a few minutes to check with his manager. Off he went, and stayed in her office for quite awhile, and then finally came back.
What he came back with was the dealer's version of the BRP Carplay letter, that had some information that was instructions to the dealer about how to deal with the requests, and some information I hadn't seen before.
While it doesn't apply to me, one of the things I saw was that the B.E.S.T. coverage was limited to a maximum of 6 years, and could not be extended for a longer time. So for those who already have 6 years of BEST coverage you'll have to go for the PA&A.
As for the Parts, Accessories & Apparel he asked me if I knew what I wanted. I told him I didn't. He told me to go online, choose the things I wanted for up to the $500 limit, and send him the list and he'd get them for me. He did say that depending on what I chose, it could take him about a week to get some of the items.
I sent him the list via email this morning and haven't heard back yet. He hasn't been very good about responding to email, so if I haven't heard from him by the middle of next week I'll call him.
This looks like more BS from BRP.
"We are working directly with Apple to fix the communication issue between the two platforms.
At this time, we still have not be given a time for completion."
That had a working guage cluster set up with a working ACP at the trade shows last year.
And had it working enough to release it to updates.
And from what I have read on other forums, it worked before it was rolled back.
So your guess is as good as mine.
From what I have seen is a working APC on a guage cluster at a trade show, but it was just the handle bars and screen, no frame of the spyder.
Then watched a video of a complete spyder at a trade show, but they never shows a working ACP.
Well today I downloaded ACP and tested it all out and it seems to work like it’s supposed to. Paired my Cardo to the bike and plugged my phone in and made calls listened to music, even used Siri to send a text. Apple Maps came up too so will do more testing tomorrow. I had to give the bike a hotspot from my phone as the wifi outside was taking to long to download. Will see how it works on the road.
Read a couple posts from email notification and just posting general comments
Yeah make sure you connect your phone to USB cable, wish they added a port on handlebar for carplay. Careful leaving phone in the glovebox connected. Generates a lot of heat and your phone will generate over temp warnings, not good for it. I exclusively have my phone mounted to handle bars and run a short cable to phone from glovebox. And I added a tether for added security. I personally prefer the quadlock mount with the vibration dampener added.l and it is the best I have personally used
And yeah. In a garage (like my underground) no cell or GPS coverage which carplay requires as well, so I expect it not to work until I leave garage
Thank you Webberpack for you input.
I do agree, lets keep this post up to date as to who has received the update and if it works or not.
I had to do the same thing, (mound for my Iphone), its not a temporary thing, I just don't like it in the glove box.
They pushed the release date back because of license issues, and never tested if they could download it to the spyder?
That is one thing you test, and then test and then test again. Been there done that.
As for the update there all the same, as for software, there not like windows where, you add software and hardware, and different brands and it messes up the software and drivers.
Yes I agree. It happened on our snowmobiles too. Advertised a new gauge with a GPS module. The machines came with the gauge and no gps module. It is an add on for 2025 but will cost us extra to buy what was supposed to be in the 2024 models. I will be very surprised if we see ACP this season. I’m thinking an extra years warranty should be compensation for not getting what we paid extra for and never got. I ignored my own rule: never buy first year technology. Happened 2 years in a row for me. You’d think I’d learn. 😏
Hello xerxes4285
Very good post, glad you were able to put the pic of you text message with BRP.
Now we can message BRP our self.
It would have been nice if BRP would have notified someone about there issue, like the dealer or customer, but they wanted to keep it a secret so they could make sales. well this is starting to backfire when they see sales drop because people are finding out that there screwing the customer for shipping there product with a defective operating gauge cluster.
Unfortunately I think you correct, but it could let other prospective customers know that the spyder that you just paid for doesn't have a working gauge cluster, ( I have other problems with my gauge cluster than the non working ACP).
This absolutely ridiculous it’s false advertisement, misleading and fraud. When I bought my machine I was told by my dealer that it did in fact have Apple Car Play and it works great. Once I made the purchase and they rolled my machine out to me after putting the gas in it and getting it ready oh surprise there’s no ACP. All they can say is we don’t know when it will actually work. I was also told by the dealer that on the 24 models there was a price increase of $2500 due to the new ACP and display. So I paid extra for nothing and they don’t know when it will be available. Can someone say class action lawsuit. This really ticks me off. Also my Bluetooth doesn’t work either and the dealer has no idea why they say it must be related to the update.
