Received email asking for money, claimed they had installed Trojan horse and now had access to all contacts, browsing history, microphone and camera, etc. Had iOS 16.6.x at the time. Email was found in my junk folder, and I didn’t put it there, so hopefully, it was a spam campaign…still it was worrisome

No. All such messages are scams presented by criminals. Do not interact with the message or the sender. Delete the email.
This is an old well known scam.
It has been around since the early days of the internet.
Ignore it.
So, if the email landed in my junk mail folder (on iPad), and THEN I opened it (in the junk folder), does sender know I viewed it? This is a yahoo mail account, but I view only on my Apple devices. I don’t know the string of players involved in getting emails to me….or my junk folder.
