fcpx media in browser not sorting correctly

My imported clips in the media browser should be sorted according to the date they were created. This is set from the view, browser, sort by option in the menu. However, they seem to be ordered randomly. I can sort them by name, which works correctly, but I can't use that option because one of my cameras resets the file numbering when I format the card so I have loads of clips with the same name. I just want to order everything by the date I filmed the clip.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.2

Check the Info inspector for creation date. I suspect the creation date is March 30 because the files were copied on a drive or to another drive, and the application is seeing the Finder creation date. Check in an application like MediaInfo to see if the file metadata is correct.

Also reset your settings whenever the application seems to be doing something strange. Hold Opt-Cmd as you launch the application.

Hi Tom, thanks. Here's the screenshots you mentioned. You'll see all the clips are grouped under 30th March despite being taken over several days and that they are also in a random order that bears no relation to their file name.

I've tried resetting it with Opt-Cmd and it hasn't fixed it.

Ah right, that makes sense. I moved the library to an external SSD as my internal drive was filling fast. I'll look into that some more. Thanks for your help.
