Unable to Screen Mirror to iMac from Macbook Air

I am receiving an "Incoming connections blocked to "IMAC"" whenever I attempt to Screen Mirror my Macbook Air. I am able to Screen Mirror to my iPad however.

I have tried:

  • Turning off the firewall
  • Uninstalling the VPN
  • Uninstalling anti-virus software.

Are there any other recommendations of how to troubleshoot or solutions?

Many thanks for your help Servant of Cats.

That iMac is new enough ("iMac introduced in 2019 or later") to meet the requirements.

That isn't the only requirement. For instance, you need to be running Monterey or later on it before you can set it up as an AirPlay Receiver. You need to turn on the AirPlay Receiver feature in the iMac's System Settings before trying to make the screen mirroring / AirPlay connection from the MacBook Air. Etc.

You didn't say which model of MacBook Air you have. It would need to be one "introduced in 2018 or later" for "best results" (or for it to act as the AirPlay Receiver). But even an older MacBook Air might be able to AirPlay to that iMac with "a lower video resolution."

I'm referring to Screen Mirroring

If I search for "Screen Mirroring", what comes up is an Apple Support article about AirPlay.

Stream audio and video from your Mac with AirPlay - Apple Support

So if you are using the Screen Mirroring menu in Control Center and are trying to send video to another Mac, you would be talking about AirPlay to Mac. Both Macs would need to meet the requirements outlined in the Support articles I previously mentioned, and the one that was going to have video streamed to it (the iMac) would need to be set up as an AirPlay Receiver.
