Daylight.A flawed way set time automatically

...a flawed way set time automatically, i think on all iphone versions

I have iphone 8, (iOS 16.7.7). Today (March 31,2024) the time did not change automatically. My phone settings is: General >> Date&Time >> Set Automatically >> ON.

The problem is, that "automatically" mean from gps (turned off on my phone) or from internet !? When i sleep at night, my phone is automatically locked and at 2 hour do not forward time automatically. The phone sets the time immediately as soon as it is unlocked - i see in the eyes. And that's a problem because i'm already late for work.

Maybe the solution to the problem would be put in the settings "change time automatically on March last sunday 2 hour"

Internet connectivity could definitely be the issue behind your iPhone not automatically updating the time,

No Internet, No Update: If your iPhone wasn't connected to the internet when the time change happened (usually early morning hours), it wouldn't have been able to fetch the updated time from the network server. This could explain why the time didn't adjust automatically when you woke up.

A misconfigured router or a Captive Network could be the culprit behind your iPhone's missed automatic time update.

Here's how these scenarios could play out:

  • Misconfigured Router: If your router settings are configured to disconnect inactive devices to save power, your iPhone might have been disconnected at night, missing the automatic time update.
  • Captive Network: These are common in public Wi-Fi hotspots (hotels, airports, cafes) where you need to accept terms and conditions before gaining internet access. If your iPhone is connected to a Captive Network and it disconnects when the device sleeps, it wouldn't be able to receive the time update.

How this aligns with your experience:

The fact that the time updated immediately upon unlocking your phone strengthens the possibility of a disconnected state throughout the night. When you unlocked your phone and reconnected to the network (Wi-Fi or cellular), the time update process would have been triggered.

Solutions:

  1. Check Router Settings: Review your router's configuration and see if there's an option to keep devices connected even when inactive. This might be under power saving settings or similar options depending on your router model.
  2. Avoid Captive Networks at Night: If you suspect the issue is related to a Captive Network, try connecting to a different network at night, perhaps your home Wi-Fi if it's available. This ensures a stable internet connection for potential time updates. Avoid use of captive Wi-Fi networks on your iPhone or iPad
  3. Manual Update: As a temporary solution, you can still manually update the time even if the automatic update fails. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and tap on the time to update it.

Additional Tips:

  • Consider contacting your internet service provider (ISP) for assistance with router configuration if needed.
  • If you frequently rely on automatic time updates at night, keeping Wi-Fi enabled on your iPhone, even when locked, might be helpful (balancing this with battery life considerations).

By investigating these possibilities, you should be able to identify the root cause of the missed time update and ensure your iPhone receives automatic updates in the future.

Thanks for the reply, but I think you are not quite right.

flawed settings is problem - from internet instead of software mode from system time. When i sleep, the phone also sleeps. My phone has mobile internet from sim, which always on. However phone's OS checked the time only after unlocked. My home wifi works on UBIQUITI UISP Router Professional (UISP-R-Pro) configured non-sleep and performance-high way. I have about 30 always on devices, generally home automation. However, the phone was asleep as was I :(
