SD card reader problem

I have a mid-2010 15" MBP and my SD reader has not worked since last year. I have tried every technique tried here:

the Parallels solution (I use it daily)

blew dust out of slot

counterclockwise and clockwise pressure

the screwdriver solution

reset PRAM

This hardware/motherboard is probably just damaged somehow and I plan to take my machine in to an Apple Store for repair.

The only way an SD card can be read is with the old multi-card reader I thought I would never need again.

Just thought I'd give my scenario in case it helps anyone. Just bought a pny class 10 32gb sdhc card, put it in the adapter and insert, nothing! Try my older sdhc card, insert... works just fine. Take the new 32gb and insert into an usb adapter, insert... works just fine. Take the new 32 gb sdhc card out of usb adapter put it back into its own sd adapter, insert into mac book, it works!

go figure...

btw, my mac book pro is 11 months old.

I had a Macbook pro early 2011 and had the same problem for a while. My computer was reading the SD cards fine up until some months ago, tried everything that you can imagine, but solve it with a video from you tube. Put the card in all the way and then back it up one milimeter and wait, it will be recognize. Aparently is a defect on the design or the case of the Mac.

Let me know if it works for you as well as it did for me.

I tried it but to no avail. Thanks for posting another possible solution. I have tried every single "solution" that has been posted here and not one of them has worked (or worked more than one time).

Has anyone gone to an Apple store and had the "geniuses" work on it? I have to admit I have not taken my MacBook Pro in to be examined.

I haven't gone to see an expert, I will wait until the warranty is close to expiration. If they have to change the motherboard, it will be like a new computer!

I have the same problem on my iMac mid 2011, and the trick is to put the card not all the way in the SD slot. I hope I'm saying it correctly, excuse my english !

I've had this problem for a long-time on my 2009 iMac. Everytime it was fingers crossed that the SD card would show up.

What resolved my issue whas the app 'CleanMyDrive' that I stumbled upon in the Mac App Store. It 'cleans' automatically the SD card on eject and since then I had zero failures when I re-inserted the card.

This worked as well for me with a mid-2012 MacBook Pro 15". Strange thing is that with the same SD-card on my MBP 13" (mid 2010) it works flawlessly without 'fiddling' with the card. Maybe a dust problem?

Just bought 2 sandisk 31gb extreme cards. Neither would work in my mid 2011 iMac's SD card reader. Both could be used with an external USB SD card reader with no problem. Previous to this I used 16gb cards in my iMac's SD card reader with no problems.

I called MAC Support. They had me.....

1. Turn my computer off.
2. Unplug any Firewire/USB devices hooked up to it.
3. Unplug the main power cord and leave it unplugged for approx 30 seconds.
4. Plug the main power cord back in.
5. Start the computer with all the Firewire/USB devices still unhooked.

After starting the iMac, it read both 32gb cards wilth no problem. I then hooked up all the Firewire/USB device back in (without turning the iMac off which I probably should have done for the Firewire anyway) and everthing was still fine regarding the use of the 32gb cards.

I have reboot my computer twice since with everything attached and it still recognizes and reads the 32gb SD cards with no problem.

Hopefully this info may help someone.

This is the solution! I worked for me too!

If you insert the card very slow and careful, it will not read it. I you just "slammed" in it will mount th SD card!
