SD card reader problem

Hoping for some help with this one... I have a mid-2009 13" MBP (2.26, 4 gigs, 1TB HDD, SL 10.6.4) and the SD card reader is not recognizing any of my SD cards (won't mount and also not seen in Disk Utility). The cards are recognized when using a USB adaptor, and also work fine in my wife's MBP SD card reader, so I know it's not the cards. System Profiler recognizes the internal card reader on my system:

Copied from Apple System Profiler:

USB High-Speed Bus:

Host Controller Location: Built-in USB
Host Controller Driver: AppleUSBEHCI
PCI Device ID: 0x0aa9
PCI Revision ID: 0x00b1
PCI Vendor ID: 0x10de
Bus Number: 0x26

Internal Memory Card Reader:

Product ID: 0x8403
Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)
Version: 98.33
Serial Number: 000000009833
Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec
Manufacturer: Apple
Location ID: 0x26500000
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 500

Also, the card reader is recognized in Windows, but still doesn't detect the card when inserted.

This one has me stumped, so any help is very much appreciated.

Neither of my two cards will show up on my Macbook Pro.

- Blew into the card reader.

- Opened iPhoto multiple times.

- Rebooted multiple times.

- Checked all "show external disks" boxes.

- About This Mac > More info > Card Reader : Shows that no card is inserted.

- Extracted and Inserted card repeatedly.

- "Wiggled" the card in the slot.

- Poked a toothpick in multiple times, using a flashlight to actually look inside card reader. (Nothing was obscuring reader.)

Anyone else got any great ideas?

Hi everybody. Same issues for me. I just copied about 32Gb of stuff on my MBP when I inserted another SD card in order to complete the data transfer and... BAM! No more SD cards for me. Spent a few time looking around for solutions on the net. Blowing in the solt seems to be the only one.

I followed jgs600 method and my SD was "Mac-friendly" again. With a blow and a finger. Got the message?
What is making me really sick is the fact that no one from the Apple staff is showing up to give some support on the forum.

OIIOIIO, I think that we are "old news" now and we can forget about Apple caring about this problem. Look at how long this string has been posted. This problem could have been solved a dozen times over IF Apple cared. I, too, have tried every single thing posted and none have worked (except one time and only for one use!) My solution: buy a card reader.

I've had this problem for nearly a year. All was working fine then one day nada. Having lost my camera cable yesterday and needing sd images urgently, I revisited this forum and found your words. All I can say is thank you. Having tried all the technical stuff many times - this trick worked! I dont know how to give points but it I did you would have them :-)
