I recently upgraded to the iPhone 15. Every other time I attempt to open the camera from the lock screen, I am faced with approximately 3 seconds of a black screen before the camera activates and I can take a photo. It feels more like a bug rather than a feature, particularly since it does not occur consistently. How can I fix it?

If it's still not working as you think it should, take advantage of your one year warranty and schedule an Appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show it to Apple.

Since I’ve updated to ios 17.4.1 im having this same issue. I’m on iPhone 13. I’ve tried hard restarting the phone. Erasing all settings and still nothing. I think your right about being a bug as my phone has been fine until now.
its frustrating because I’ve been wanting to capture some important life moments only to have missed them because of this camera delay.
I am going to schedule an appointment and I suggest you do to.

It doesn't open the camera instantly. It can take a second or two for the camera to open and your observation that initially you will see a black screen until the camera comes online is accurate.
When it happens it takes more than 3 seconds. The odd thing is that it isn’t happening each time and it didn’t happen in iPhone X. Doesn’t sound like a feature
