Outdated iPad Replacement

If I have a version of an iPad that Apple no longer sells that is covered by AppleCare and it breaks, will I be sent the same version that broke or a newer version that they are currently selling? Trying to decide if it is worth it to keep AppleCare for my iPad.

Apple generally exchange devices on a like for like basis - unless an identical model is unavailable from their pool of refurbished devices.

If you are still being offered AppleCare+ renewals, then you should have no concerns for service repairs or replacement. That said, if your iPad is sufficiently old, you might prefer to consider replacement of your aging iPad with a much newer model - in so doing benefiting from newer and more powerful system hardware and capabilities.
