Printing with Mac and Printing Suddenly Stopped

Out of the blue, printing stopped on both my printers while using Intel Mac running OS Monterey 12.7.4.All has been working fine for months...no prior glitches or stoppages. Now I get the famous rotating beach ball when I try to print to either printer or from any app.

The spinning beach ball you're seeing on your Mac indicates it's overloaded and struggling to complete a task, in this case, printing. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the printing issue on your Intel Mac running Monterey:

  1. Check for Software Updates: Outdated software can sometimes cause printing problems. Make sure your Mac and printer drivers are up to date. You can check for updates by going to System Preferences > Software Update.
  2. Restart Your Mac and Printers: This might seem simple, but a restart can often resolve temporary glitches. Restart your Mac and both printers, and then try printing again.
  3. Reset the Printing System: Mac has a built-in option to reset the printing system. This can clear out any corrupted configurations causing issues. You can find instructions on how to do this by searching for "Reset Printing System" on Apple Support.
  4. Check Printer Connection and Drivers: Make sure your printers are properly connected to your Mac via USB or Wi-Fi. Additionally, ensure you're using the latest drivers for your specific printer models. You can usually find these drivers on the manufacturer's website.
  5. Print in Safe Mode: Booting your Mac in Safe Mode disables startup programs that might be interfering with printing. Try printing something in Safe Mode (search for instructions online) to see if it works. If printing works in Safe Mode, then a conflicting program might be the culprit.

Hello The_Knowledge_Seeker,

Your idea #3 above has apparently worked! The instructions under "Reset Printing System" said to click on the list of printers that appeared on the left. There were no printers shown, unlike THEY HAD been for years, but I clicked in the Open Space where they WOULD have been, and all worked from there! That was a few hours ago, and all is still going well, some features even better.

Thanks again,

Craig
