Can't connect to CarPlay - Apple can't help

Writing this post for my friend. He bough a new car, Hyundai I20, and he has an issue where he can't connect to CarPlay, but any other iPhone can connect successfully - both wired and wireless (he tried 5 different iPhones). When he tries to connect his iPhone, it writes on the car screen: "Apple CarPlay cannot be connected. Please check your iPhone".

We tried the following to resolve this issue:

  • Unpair and pair the iPhone to the car
  • Try to connect with cable, both USB and USB C
  • Reset network setting on the iPhone
  • Reset all content and settings (basically setup a new iPhone)

All the above couldn't solve the issue. He also talked with Apple support on the phone, they said the above as well (which we already tried) and they said if it doesn't work, they can't know how to solve it.

Wanted to ask if anyone here had a similar issue, or knows what else he can try to do in order to get CarPlay working on his phone?

Thanks guys!

Getting Your iPhone to Work with Hyundai i20 CarPlay: A Fresh Start Guide

Having trouble connecting your iPhone to your Hyundai i20's CarPlay? It might be because the system is overloaded with previously connected devices. Here's how to clear things out and get a fresh start:

  1. Clean Up the Connection List: Your car's infotainment system can only store a limited number of devices. Head into the system's settings and look for a section on Bluetooth or Connected Devices. There, you should find a list of previously connected phones and other devices. Remove all of them, especially any Android phones that were linked through Android Auto.
  2. Fresh iPhone Connection: With the old connections cleared, forget the Hyundai i20's Bluetooth connection on your iPhone and vice versa. This ensures a clean slate for reconnection.
  3. Reconnect Your iPhone: Now, refer to your Hyundai i20's manual or search online for specific CarPlay pairing instructions for your model year. This will typically involve enabling Bluetooth on both your iPhone and the car's infotainment system, followed by a search and selection process.

Tip: Some Hyundai i20 models offer wireless CarPlay connectivity. If yours does, consult the manual to see if there are any additional steps required to activate this feature.

Remember: Every car's infotainment system has its quirks. If you run into any issues during this process, don't hesitate to consult your Hyundai i20's user manual or search online forums for model-specific troubleshooting tips.
