I got my Apple ID back after being locked for 21 days!

Hey guys! I hope this post will be useful to those worried owners who have locked ID issues.

Few days back my iPhone got locked, I had no other devices from where I could access my id easily. It was my only apple device and was locked. I tried to recover using another device and mail, it said "in 14 days you will get a notification with a recovery link and you can check the recovery update here--(with link)"

But whenever I tried to track the recovery update - it would proceed to make another recovery request, not showing the update of my current request. That's how I waited and hoped in 14 days the link would appear in my mail or something...

The link never arrived after 14 days, and I was disheartened and reach out here to discuss the issue.

I tried to read Apple guidelines more carefully, searched apple official channel on YouTube for helpful alters. Then I again made a recovery request, this time I tuned my device completely off (the one I was recovering for) and kept it turned off till the recovery time was over.

Mail arrived saying "you will get a recovery link in 7 days", and yes I got a recovery link after 7 days. I logged in with another device, corrected my password and then turned my apple device on to put the new password and it worked.

Here's what I learned and it can be helpful to you:

Why can't you (someone) log into his own iPhone after waiting for 14 days, providing correct info and ensuring as the real owner is because,

  1. Your WIFI on the recovery device was turned on, and it was receiving data / message/ notification in the background, so apple got the impression your iPhone id is OK and running well. SO no reason to make a recovery request. Hence, the recovery request never got made at the first place.

The right way to make a recovery request for Apple ID:

  1. Turn the WiFI on that device off
  2. Or BETTER, if you turn that device off completely till the waiting phase is over

which means after creating a recovery request , if you get notification on the mail saying "wait 14 days/ 7 days / x days to get the recovery link" , during that time do not turn that device on, let apple see your device is off and all id service is blank, so nothing is running in the background.

Thus, apple will proceed to create a recovery link. And it (may) arrive sooner/ before the period is over.

How to know if Your recovery request was made successfully:

  1. When you login to see recovery update from another device, if it start making a new request, that means your previous request was not successful.
  2. But if it shows something like "get recovery on xx/xx/20xx date or in 7/8/9 days" that means the request is made successfully

Then apple will proceed to make a Recovery link and Trust me you will receive it after the waiting period is over.
