My iPad Pro does not automatically back up to icloud

My iPad Pro is not backing up to iCloud when it is connected to power. It is set up to do so, but has not been working in quite some time. I have to manually back it up.

When initially enabling iCloud backup, the automatic backup process won’t run until you have manually triggered an initial backup from iPad settings:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > iCloud > iCloud Backup >

  • Backup This iPad - set to ON
  • Backup Now

After the initial backup, the next automatic backup should run when these conditions are met:

  • 24hrs or more have elapsed since the last backup
  • the iPad is connected to its Power Adapter
  • the iPad is connected to WiFi
  • the iPad is locked

If conditions are such that an automatic backup has not been possible for an extended period, automatic backup will cease - until you trigger a manual update.
