How do I avoid losing edits I have done when using Google Drive on my iPad Pro?

I bought an iPad pro because I thought it is easy to take notes and important for my studies. I like the fact that I can edit files in my Google drive, my main storage. However, the problem is that sometimes it automatically changes the file I'm still editing and some of my notes are lost. It is really annoying and disappointing. Does anyone have the same problem? How can I fix it?

Remote "in-place" editing of files risks file corruption if the network connection is interrupted.

When editing files saved in Cloud storage, it is far safer to copy the target file to local storage - and make edits to the local copy. This avoids potential corruption of the remote file during editing - in addition to which, should anything go wrong with your edit, you have preserved the original file stored elsewhere.

When you have completed your edit, you can copy or move the edited file back to Cloud storage - keeping the original if desirable. Using this technique follows good practice - as you minimise opportunities for error or file corruption. Maintaining multiple versions of document also facilitates easy reversal of edits.
