Installing MacOS - Creating a User

I'm in the process of re-installing MacOS on my MacBook Pro as Apple wiped it clean for me yesterday to sell. I'm skipping the option to sign into any Apple ID, but I'm asked to create a user profile for the computer before I install.

Can this user name be changed later on when sold? Again, I'm not logged into any Apple ID.

Thanks.

"Can this user name be changed later on when sold?"

Not easily and not recommended as it could complicate matters for the new owner. TBH you don't need to create a new user if you're going to sell it as the new owner will create one themselves. This makes the most sense and what most experienced users would advise. As long as the Mac boots Ok and gets you to the setup assistant leave it as it is because that way the new owner will look at it as if it was a "new computer" with nothing linking it to the previous owner. Just make sure it has been released from Find My and your Apple-ID is in no way associated with it.

Good luck with the sale.

If you follow the steps in this Apple Support article: What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support

And stop after you finish step 7.2, the Mac will be at the Hello screen you mentioned, with no users installed. Make sure you hit Cmd-Q at this step, otherwise Setup Assistant will start, which is when you'll be asked to create a user account.

This makes sense, so thank you. I've seen some listings with the screen showing "Hello" as proof that the computer is "like new" and ready to go and be signed into. Is that because MacOS is already installed as opposed to what I have on mine? I'm sure I can show the screen asking to log into an Apple ID, but MacOs hasn't yet been installed.

Thanks again!
