My MacBook air started talking out loud after I installed the latest update today (4/3/24). I went into system preferences and turned off "voice over" but it hasn't stopped. I've also tried hitting "command/F5." It's now reading this message out loud!!! Please help.

My husband was able to get rid of it by going under settings, spoken content (just type it in the search bar) and turn off “speak item under the pointer”.

Try rebooting into Safe Mode and let it run in that mode for 10 minutes or so in order to clear out caches: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support
If it's not doing that in Safe Mode, then reboot normally and see if it stops.
