how do i calibrate my fitness tracker to reflect actual mileage

I have verified Fitness Tracking on the my apple watch series 9 is happening. I have reset the fitness Calibration Data via my Apple Watch app twice. Software is up to date: Watch 10.4 and iPhone 14 is on version 17.4.1. When I walk or run on the treadmill, it awards me a full mile when I have only traveled .73 miles. very frustrated!

Treadmill mileage is only guesswork, Unless you connect your watch to a compatible treadmill you will only get an approximation based on your outdoor gps mileage vs pace calculation.

Do more outdoor running to improve the algorithm, resetting it will make it worse.
