Trouble setting up dual monitor

I have a new Macbook Air and two new Sceptre monitors. My goal is to use both external monitors as a dual monitor setup.

  • I can plug monitor1 into either USB port and it automatically recognizes the display.
  • I can plug monitor2 into either USB port and it automatically recognizes the display.
  • BUT if I plug in both monitors it only recognizes one of them. Tried both monitors in both ports - even had an adapter where I could have both monitors on one port. Always only recognizes one of them.

Frustrating - please advise

I think it depends on how new this MacBook Air is. The new M3 MacBook Airs do support two external monitors...but only when the MacBook Air is in clamshell mode (closed).

If it's an M2 MacBook Air, then KiltedTim's reply applies...they only support one external monitor.
