I have used this mic before on my mac to do voiceovers on imovie, last time I used it was probably a month ago, and now that I want to record again it won't detect it on imovie, I checked all of my preferences and everything is as it should be to allow mic usage but the mic does not appear on output sound preferences. How to get my Late 2014 Mac mini - microphone to work? How to get my microphone to work on my Late 2014 Mac mini? I am using a separate microphone, not one with earphones included. The microphone has a 3.5 dia. pin with 2 black rings. I am plugging it into the mic jack and not the earphone jack. I have tested the earphone jack and it works fine. Please help !!

microphone is not working i have a macbook pro and i cannot get the microphone to work. Tried googling some ideas but still have not been able to get it to work.

Wondering which MacOS version you are using , and whether an update may help.

Also ... where is the microphone not working ... in a particular app ... online videos ... everywhere.

Eg: Tried microphone works in Voice memos ?

A few possible troubleshooting checks: If not already done:

You may want to check : the volume is not somehow set so low seems it's not working :

: A focus / Do Not Disturb is not turned on

: Mac is not muted (eg: FaceTime etc.)

Check for mic. access allowed: Control access to the microphone on Mac - Apple Support

Check : Change the sound input settings on Mac - Apple Support

Check / change / which settings in use : Use Mic Modes on your Mac - Apple Support

Change Sound settings on Mac - Apple Support
